Is it necessary to learn English if we want to prepare for Civil Service Exam?

Across the globe, the English language is an essential tool for communication. It can build friendships, economic relationships, and cultural ties as it is the best means of exchanging thoughts and ideas. But, it is unprecedented the way the English language is supplanting other languages of the world.  English is widely taught in the entire region as its rising significance in the education system of such countries where English is even crucial than their national languages that depict why the younger generation is crazy and feverish to learn English in the subcontinent.

Importance of English language

To play the vibrant role as lingua franca between states whose native languages are other than English when it comes to the economic dealings of great powers, enhanced bilateral cooperation and diplomatic use of English have paved its path. Unfortunately, people are judged by their linguistic skills that is nothing but a reflection of the colonial and outdated mindset of Great Britain in many countries. It will lead to language endangerment and ultimately to language death of many languages with this futile and bizarre trend that has to be discouraged. In terms of language rights, it is also a violation of article 14 of the UN article.

English is given the utmost importance than the rest of the subjects in the CSS/IPS exams syllabus if we take a bird's eye view of India and Pakistan's civil service exam. The future of the aspirants and, furthermore, the policymakers will have set English both with the help of the composition and essay papers as touchstones for the civil service are decided through English.

To the old colonial mindset, even in the 21st century that the elite class has set English as a criterion of competency in the civil service exams as this is the equivalent. Many aspirants who are more competent in other subjects could not achieve a niche in the civil services because of their schooling that is not at par with the elite school systems. Therefore, to the colonial mindset in the sub-continent, civil service exams are still imbibed.

Factors affecting the language of English

English language learning has become a fever for the learners and their parents owing to these factors. Therefore, it has led to the cutthroat competition between several academicians and business people that resulted in the mushroom growth of academies and institutes in our nation.
In the education system, there has been mayhem and confusion. In the issues of the result-oriented language policy of curriculum, the government is not keenly interested. The scene has further been exacerbated with different objectives they have set with the curriculum differences in provinces.
Why are English medium schools not promoted and encouraged as the sole institutes for our students if English is the yardstick in civil services exams? It needs timely remedy as this is the core issue of failure in our education system. English language should not be a prestige marker in our society as it was embedded in British colonial rules, in my opinion. When one lives up to the competitive exams' need as its role is instrumental in the exams, English may be reckoned prestige marker.

The most powerful tool in the English language. It can inspire people to make life0changing decisions and can influence people profoundly. It is the language that is termed as the "Effective language." Try writing at least 3-4 lines that are effective, and you will be rewarded when you write a 250-words answer in your IAS exam. You can create a deep impression in the examiner's mind if you can write the ineffective or influential language. For you, this can translate into valuable marks.

How to acquire the right language?

Not one person is born with it, as this is an acquired skill. This skill will help you with your whole life, not just in civil services exams once acquired. You need to go through several books, magazines, and newspapers. You need to start using it while speaking and also during writing practice, also make a note of new words and phrases. You will need to make an effort in doing so, but with practice, they will become second nature to you in the beginning.
