In purview of the questions raised by experts and the opposition over the approval of Covaxin, Bharat Biotech MD Krishna Ella said on Monday that the company had "tremendous experience" in making vaccines. While addressing a virtaul press conference, Ella said that his company's work was no less than Pfizer's which also did the same as we do.
As per the Union Health Ministry, 38 people have been tested positive for the new variant of SARS-COV-2 in India till now. “All these people have been kept in single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by respective state governments and their close contacts have also been put under quarantine,” the ministry said.
After the approval of two COVID-19 vaccines, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appraised the efforts of scientists. He further said that the country is proud of the research and work done by them to combat the covid virus. Mr. Modi said that “We’re on the threshold of starting the largest vaccination programme in the world. The entire country is indebted to all scientists and technicians,”. India is about to start its mass vaccination programme in the "near future". The centre has told to the vaccine manufactures of Covishield and Covaxin to prepare to ship "a significant amount" of doses to over 30 vaccination hubs in the country. India plans to vaccinate over 30 crore priority citizens in the first phase which includes - healthcare workers, people with comorbidities & people above the age of 50. This phase will likely to be completed in August.
India has recorded 16,505 new COVID cases in last 24 hours (ending 8 am Monday). The total number of infections has touched over 1.03 crore. The active cases has further dropped to 2.43 lakh while the recovery rates has kept on rising which stand at over 99.46 lakh. Total death of 214 was reported on Sunday. Now Kerala is at the top in the list which has contribued 4,602 new cases while Maharastra has reported 3,282 new cases on Sunday.
